A giant crocodile was captured alive in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur last Saturday, September 3, 2011. The reptile measured approximately 21 feet (6.4 meters) long and weighed 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms).
Said to be the largest in the world, it took about 100 people to put the crocodile in a fenced cage. It is bigger than the record holder, an Estuarine–Siamese hybrid found in Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo in Thailand. It was only 6 meters (19.69 feet) long.
According to reports, the giant crocodile was first seen last month killing a carabao. The villagers then set traps to capture the crocodile which was also suspected to be the one responsible for a fisherman's disappearance last July.
The monster, though, easily destroyed the traps. The people then decided to use steel cables, which finally captured the giant crocodile.
Town mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said they are planning of putting up an eco-tourism park for species found in Agusan del Sur, of which the giant crocodile, of course, would be the main attraction.
