Andy Whitfield of "Spartacus" Dies at 39

Andy Whitfield, who starred in the TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, died of cancer on Sunday at the age of 39.

Andy's wife, Vashti, said the cause was non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which they found out during a routine check-up in March last year.

Andy took a leave from Spartacus to heal, but never recovered enough to come back. Actor Liam McIntyre took over the leading role for the show's second season.

Andy Whitfield was from Wales but lived in Australia. He is survived by two children and a sister, in addition to his wife who said the actor died in her arms.

Phil & James Younghusband's Mother Dies

Susan Younghusband, mother of Philippine Azkals members Phil and James Younghusband, passed away Saturday night. She was 50.

Reports said that the Filipina mother of the football stars died of massive heart attack. She is survived by sons Phil and James, as well as by the 9-year-old only daughter, Keri.

Her husband, Philip, died of cancer 8 years ago.

Susan Younghusband's remains lie in state at Funeraria Paz in Sucat, Parañaque.

Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli Figure in a Fight at the Star Magic Ball 2011

Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli figured in a fight at The Peninsula Manila during the Star Magic Ball 2011 held Saturday night.

Matteo reportedly left the hotel with a bleeding mouth courtesy of Coco's fist. Witnesses said, though, that it was Matteo who started the fight. The My Binondo Girl star allegedly choked Coco, which caused the latter to defend himself by punching Matteo.

Further reports said that the fight started when Matteo grabbed Coco by the back of his coat/shirt.

The name of Maja Salvador was immediately dragged into the issue. The pretty Thelma star and Matteo Guidicelli have been constantly linked to each other for sometime. Coco Martin, on the other hand, was Maja's leading man in the recently-concluded ABS-CBN drama, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. Talks about Matteo being jealous of Coco had circulated numerous times especially that Coco was vocal in expressing his admiration for Maja.

Meanwhile, on The Buzz, Maja talked to Boy Abunda about the incident and admitted she was the cause of it all. She also admitted for the first time that she and Matteo are in a relationship but confessed she doesn't know where their relationship would go after the incident at the Manila Pen.

On the question regarding what triggered the fight between the two actors, Maja refused to go into details, but said it's not true that Coco Martin kissed her on the lips during the after party at the hotel's Salon de Ning bar.

The Star Magic management already released a statement saying that Matteo Guidicelli and Coco Martin have already patched things up. “What happened was just a simple misunderstanding," the statement says. "Both Coco and Matteo are sorry it happened. Everything has been resolved.”

Beyonce is Pregnant + Her VMAs "Love On Top" Performance [Video]

Beyonce walked the black carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday wearing a bright orange Lanvin gown and a baby bump!

Later on the VMAs stage, she said before singing Love on Top, "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet, I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me."

Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z for three years now, wore a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that included a purple sequin tuxedo jacket, white top and black pants. It could also be noticed that she danced to the minimum during the performance.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Separate Ways

Will Smith and wife of 13 years Jada Pinkett have already separated, according to reports. The two have 2 kids – Jaden Smith, 13, and Willow Smith, 10.

Will and Jada didn't show any signs of problem when they opened their Malibu home to Architectural Digest. They even posed lovingly to the camera.

This will be Will's second marriage to end. In 1995, he divorced Sheree Zampino after three years of being married. They have a son named Williard Christopher Smith who is also called as Trey. He is now 18.

Will and Jada met in 1995 during an audition for the role of Will's girlfriend for the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Airi. Jada was turned down because she was too short for the part.

The two married on New Year's Eve in 1997 in front of 100 friends and family. Jada was 2 months pregnant at that time.

Will and Jada's kids are now in the entertainment industry. Jaden Smith, in fact, became the highest paid child star in Hollywood after he did The Karate Kid last year. Willow Smith, on the other hand, is into recording. Her debut single Whip My Hair is a big hit.

I wonder how the two will react if they come to learn about the break-up.

Kate Winslet Saves a 90-year-old

Kate Winslet, who became a household name in the Philippines for portraying the role of Rose in the movie Titanic, recently made headlines by saving a 90-year-old from the fire.

Kate Winslet and her young children were staying at the Great House on Necker Island when it was struck by lightning during the early hours of Monday when the area was hit by Hurricane Irene. While the other guests fled for their lives, the actress carried the 90-year-old Eve Branson to safety. Eve is the mother of Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Records and owner of the Great House.

There were about 20 guests at the Great House that time which included Kate, her boyfriend and her two kids, and Sir Richard's daughter, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Sir Richard, 61, his wife Joan and son Sam, 25, were staying at another villa some 100 yards away. He had to run naked towards the burning house to help rescue his guests.

The house was completely destroyed. Sir Richard said his office was based in that house and with the fire went a lot of his treasured photographs. But all of his friends are well, and that's what really mattered.

The tycoon also talked to ITV News about Kate Winslet's role in saving his mother. He said, ‘It was she who carried my mother out of the house. She said it was like being on a film set where you’re waiting for the words “cut” but they just don’t come. So it was quite surreal for her to be in a real-life situation.

‘She carried my Mum out of the house. My Mum is 90 and can walk but it was more just to speed the process up than anything else but anyway, she was great. She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible.’

Sir Richard Branson bought the Necker Island,which is part of the British Virgin Islands, in 1979. It is used by his family and friends but is also available for rent for a sum of 34,000 pounds a night. Those who doesn't wanna rent the whole place can stay there for 1,115 pounds a night.

Well-known guests of the Great House on Necker Island were Princess Diana with young sons William and Harry, Kate Middleton, Janet Jackson, Harrison Ford, Mariah Carey, Eddie Murphy, and Oprah Winfrey.

After columnist Mario Bautista confronted Carla Abellana during My Neighbor's Wife's press conference last night, one would wonder what the actress wrote in her e-mail to Mario that made him confront her in that manner at the said presscon.

Good thing Jojo Gabinete has an unedited copy of the e-mail that he published in his PEP.ph blog, Cabinet Files.

“HI Mario! This is Carla Abellana. I just read your Journal August 21 article entitled ‘Geoff Won’t Watch Carla’s Daring Movie’ and was shocked.

“First off, I don’t remember being interviewed by you recently.

“Second, not a single word you supposedly ‘quoted’ from me is true. Those words never came out of my mouth.

“Third, I was never challenged by Ms. Lovi Poe in our movie because it was never a goal for me to equal her in this movie. My character’s goal is different from hers and she’s a completely different actress with a completely different role from mine.
“It was never an intention for me to equal her in this movie because whatever I do, I never will!

“For you to use such words as ‘… biggest challenge here for me is Lovi Poe…’ and ‘… I feel obligated na pantayan yung ginagawa niya…’ are words that never even crossed my mind, all the more come out of my mouth.

“Fourth, the supposed quotation in the last line of your first paragraph says, ‘Ganu’n din si Jake Cuenca, mahusay in doing bed scenes.’

“Lastly, I never said that Mr. Geoff Eigenmann decided not to watch the movie. I never said that because presently he is not even sure if he’s going to be in the country when the movie comes out.

“It makes me wonder where you got all your information. Obviously this article is based on second-hand information, therefore unreliable.

Carla Abellana Gets Castigated During "My Neighbor's Wife" Presscon

One of My Neighbor's Wife's leads, Carla Abellana, was castigated during the movie's press conference Monday night, August 22, 2011.

Veteran showbiz columnist Mario Bautista confronted Carla about the e-mail she sent him regarding an article that was published in his column. The actress was allegedly misquoted in one part of the article and e-mail was to demand an erratum for that.

Mario Bautista reasoned that he only based his article on the publicity slant provided by Regal Entertainment, the producer of My Neighbor's Wife.

Paris Hilton Leaves Manila in a Pacquiao Shirt

After almost four days, Paris Hilton already left Manila Thursday night, August 18th. She was wearing a Manny Pacquiao shirt while generously waving at her Pinoy fans and answering questions from the media.

Paris expressed how she likes Manny and Jinkee Pacquiao and the Philippines in general. "I love the Philippines," the American socialite told GMA-7's 24 Oras. "The Filipino people are amazing. I've had such a great time here. I love it. I can't wait to come back."

Paris Hilton would surely be back especially that she has business ventures here. Aside from endorsing and designing The Azure's Paris Beach Club, she also opened her fourth boutique here in the Philippines at SM Megamall last Thursday. She herself cut the ribbon at the store opening the afternoon before she left.

Paris Hilton Dines With the Pacquiaos

As reported earlier, the American socialite and hotel heiress was hoping to meet boxer and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao and wife Jinkee while she's here in the Philippines. She first met the couple last May in the US.

And just recently, Pacman had dinner with Paris Hilton. He was accompanied by wife Jinkee, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Singson, and an entourage including the young Kapuso teen star Enzo Pineda and his mom and dad Eric Pineda, who is Pacman's business manager.

In an interview at the House of Representatives this afternoon, Pacman said he will discuss with Paris a possible business venture and will encourage her to do charity works. Details about the business venture, though, weren't divulged further but the boxer promised to eventually inform the media about it.

Paris Hilton will open her 4th boutique in the Philippines on Thursday and will hold a meet and greet session with her fans afterwards. Fans who purchase a handbag from Paris Hilton Handbags & Accessories store from today up until August 18 will be given a pass to the event that will happen at 4 PM on August 18.

Paris Hilton Handbags & Accessories already has branches in Resorts World Manila (Pasay City), Robinsons Place-Ermita (Manila), and Abreeza Mall-Davao (Davao City).

Aside from the opening of the boutique, the American socialite who arrived Sunday night (Manila time) also did a shoot for an ad of The Azure's Paris Beach Club, a clubhouse with a resort-inspired theme that Paris Hilton herself would help design. Georgina Wilson Gets Criticized for Bashing Paris Hilton's "Courtesy Call" to PNoy

Model Georgina Wilson who became close to the hearts of Filipinos with her stint as judge on ABS-CB's Showtime has recently created a buzz with her tweets regarding the socialite and hotel heiress Paris Hilton and PNoy.

Paris arrived in the Philippines last night (RELATED STORY) and it had been said that she would be paying President Noynoy Aquino a courtesy call at Malacañang. Amidst the media hype over the socialite, Georgina took to Twitter and posted:

"why is PNOY taking time out of his "busy" schedule to meet with Paris Hilton tomorrow. So shameful that he doesn't have better things to do."

It was the tweet that received some bashing. Many said Georgina was just insecure, or was just bitter because she wouldn't have a chance to meet Paris.

After all the negative comments, though, Georgina seemed to keep her cool and explained herself via this tweet:

"I dnt mean to offend anyone or be negative I jst think that Paris Hilton isnt important enough for a president to meet up with.night guys :)"

And this morning, despite the still ongoing negative campaign against her by some, Georgina tweeted a positive message that was actually a comment on ANC's tweet regarding the president not meeting the socialite. Georgina's tweet read:

"go PNOY! :) smart decision :) RT @ANCALERTS: RT @Abi_Valte: President Aquino is NOT meeting Paris Hilton. NO courtesy call."

It was eventually learned that the said courtesy call was just a speculation of some. In a radio interview, Abigail Valte (Deputy Presidential Spokesperson) said that they weren't advised of any courtesy call.

Black Eyed Peas Will Be Back in Manila This October

The American hip hop group Black Eyed Peas is coming back to Manila in October for a concert, that's what Manila Standard Today lifestyle columnist Harold Geronimo tweeted an hour ago.

Harold recently met with BEP's Filipino member, Apl.de.ap, who is currently in the country to attend to his projects for Pampanga students. And the Filipino-American singer seemed to be doing a lot of charity works for his native town. In another tweet by Harold Geronimo, he said that Apl.de.ap will be unveiling his music library and computer lab in Holy Angels University and Sapang Bato High School in Angeles City tomorrow.

Paris Hilton Arrives in Manila

Paris Hilton is in Manila! The American socialite arrived around 11:20 PM of August 14, 2011 (Manila time) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Paris Hilton is said to have lost 2 iPhones iPads on her flight to Manila, reason why it took her long to get to the lobby of NAIA 1.

And to confirm that she's really here, the yellow-clad socialite took to Twitter saying:

"Mabuhay Philippines! I just arrived, thousands of fans waiting at the airport when I walked in. I feel so welcomed here! Mahal ko kayo! :)"

Now isn't that sweet?

She was tired, though, and opted to rest at a Makati hotel before anything else. By the way, she's here to visit the Pacquiaos.

I wonder what's in her itinerary. Will keep you posted.

Update: In a recent Tweet by @harold_geronimo, Paris Hilton's iPads were already "returned to her, items left on her seat, not clear whether plane seat or terminal seat in Dubai."

Karla Henry Survives Stabbing Incident

Miss Earth 2008 titleholder Karla Henry was reportedly stabbed by a drunken man in her condominium building in Mandaluyong this morning, August 11, 2011.

Around 6 AM, the beauty queen was on her way down the California Garden Square building when a drunk named Jerome Quibuyen stabbed her on the back using a broken beer bottle.

Karla was immediately rushed to Victor Potenciano Medical Center and later transferred to St. Luke's Medical Center Global City. She survived the stabbing incident, according to the police, and is currently recuperating.

Suspect Jerome Quibuyen had been arrested and is under police custody.

Reason(s) of the stabbing hasn't been disclosed yet, nor if Quibuyen is also a tenant of the condominium building.

Heaven is in Manila

Heaven Arespacochaga, the son of Geneva Cruz and Paco Arespacochaga, is in the country for a vacation. The 15-year-old is staying with Geneva's ex-husband KC Montero whom Heaven has looked up to as his father since he was small.

He also has a good relationship with his biological dad, the former Introvoys band member Paco Arespacochaga, and it wouldn't happen if Geneva didn't know how to have good relationships with her exes.

Judging by the pics in her Facebook account, Geneva is already in good terms with KC Montero even if the two separated just last year.

Meanwhile, Heaven made a Facebook page which he said he would be deleting if he didn't get at least a hundred likes. As of posting, the page already has more than 300.

A little trivia on Heaven Arespacochaga: He was named after the popular Introvoys song Line to Heaven.

Welcome Back, Ate Guy!

Nora Aunor is back in the Philippines after eight (8) long years of staying in the U.S. The superstar arrived before dawn Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 past 4:30 AM.

Ate Guy was promptly mobbed by waiting fans (who was said to have been waiting since 1 AM) as well as airport employees who missed her. Fans even arrived at the airport with food and flowers as pasalubong to their idol.

Laguna Governor Ramon Emilio Ejercito III and German Moreno, who will be Nora Aunor's manager during her short visit, welcomed her at the airport.

Nora is only staying in the Philippines for three (3) months. She is set to do a miniseries with TV5 and a movie with Governor Ejercito.

Nora Aunor Comes Home on August 2

Nora Aunor is coming back to the Philippines after 8 long years of staying in the US. She is set to sign a contract with TV5 for a television series. She is also going to star in the movie titled El Presidente with Governor ER Ejercito.

In a radio interview with German Moreno, Nora said she will be leaving Los Angeles on the night of July 31st via Philippine Airlines. She will arrive in Manila on August 2nd.

She further said she's thankful to those who helped her get projects in the country especially to Suzette Ranillo and ER Ejercito. She is excited to see her children, siblings, and fans upon her return.

Nora Aunor was arrested for illegal drug possession at the Los Angeles International Airport in 2002. This is her first time to go back home after that incident.

Manny Pacquiao's Manila Polo Club Application Rejected

It was reported last month that Manny Pacquiao has bought a house at Forbes Park in Makati for a rumored sum of P388 million. As we all know, Forbes Park is where the multi-millionaires of the country resides.

Forbes Park has this exclusive elite club called Manila Polo Club (MPC). It was said that the boxing superstar applied for membership at the said club but was rejected.

It was said that the MPC is a small club in a small village and the club want to preserve a lifestyle. MPC is said to be strict with members bringing in guests. Perhaps they're worried that Manny Pacquiao would bring in his whole entourage as guests every time he goes there.

Too bad.
