Bela Padilla Brings Home Two Awards from 2011 Asian Super Model Competition

Kapuso actress Bela Padilla brought honor to the country by bringing home two awards from the 2011 Asian Super Model competition held recently in China.

image

Bela won the Miss Friendship and Media's Darling awards. These awards may not be among the major awards given but Bela was nonetheless happy because it was the first time a Pinay brought home two awards from the said competition.

The actress told GMA News TV's In the Limelight that she was the shortest among the girls who competed. Some were as tall as 6'5" while she was only 5'6". The director of the show even told her that she may be the fattest among the girls but she has the best personality.

When asked if she now considers joining the major beauty pageants in our country, Bela said she's been eyeing Miss World Philippines but then she still needs much preparation before she finally joins.

Last year, Pinay models joined the Asian Super Model competition. Mariana del Rio won 3rd runner-up while Bianca Paz and Gwen Ruais won the special awards for Ms. Photogenic and Best Runway Walk, respectively.

Mike Tan Takes Over Paulo Avelino's Role in an Upcoming Soap

The GMA-7 soap opera that Paulo Avelino turned down to transfer to ABS-CBN had been handed over to another a fellow StarStruck alumnus, Mike Tan. And perhaps this is the break Mike had been waiting for.

Mike Tan

Titled Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat (previously titled Magkaagaw), Mike Tan will be working alongside Carla Abellana and Michelle Madrigal.

This is quite a good news for the fans and supporters of Mike. A big break after a series of supporting roles since after he won the second season of StarStruck back in 2005.

Congratulations, Mike!

GMA-7's "Andres de Saya" Bids Goodbye

After just three months on air, the Cesar Montano-Iza Calzado starrer Andres de Saya is saying goodbye. The sitcom had been receiving poor ratings since it was moved to the Sunday night timeslot that put it against Vice Ganda's comedy talk show Gandang Gabi Vice.

Andres de Saya was doing quite well in its original Saturday night timeslot. It was moved to Sunday night to replace Show Me Da Manny when the Marian Rivera-Manny Pacquiao show was put off air.

Talks about a second season for Andres de Saya surfaced but it has not been confirmed as of this time. The show will have its final episode on Sunday, August 21.

Meanwhile, Iza Calzado can still be seen Mondays to Fridays on the hit noontime show Eat Bulaga! Rumors about her transfer to TV5 made a buzz the past week but it was not yet confirmed.

Leana Tabuñar Signs Contract with GMA-7

Aside from Arjohn Gilbert, another Filipino YouTube sensation is currently being the talk of the town. But the little girl, named Leana Tabuñar, seemed to have hit it big sooner than the others seeking for popularity through the video sharing website.

I posted her video here four days ago, saying that her rendition of Price Tag is, for me, the best around.

And it's so good to know that the 8-year-old girl has already signed a contract with GMA-7 and is set to appear on Party Pilipinas starting August 21.

Leana Tabunar Contract Signing

Leana's singing talent reached the knowledge of the network's executive Annette Gozon-Abrogar through Nelson Canlas. And accompanied by her parents just last Wednesday, the little signed a contract with the Kapuso network. Also present in the contract signing were GMA-7 executives Wilma Galvante, Joey Abacan, and Annette Gozon-Abrogar.

In a 24 Oras interview, Leana said it's her dream to sing with international YouTube sensation Charice, who recently invited Arjohn Gilbert to perform with her in an upcoming Manila concert. But who knows? Leana might also get to be invited.

If you haven't listened to Leana yet, or just want to listen to her over and over again, her Price Tag video can be found here.

Paulo Avelino Transfers to ABS-CBN

Paulo Avelino is shifting from being a Kapuso to become a Kapamilya! The 23-year-old who rose to fame after joining GMA-7's talent search StarStruck back in 2006, has opted to try his luck in ABS-CBN.

Paulo Avelino

Paulo's last project in GMA-7 was Alakdana, where he played opposite Louise delos Reyes. The Kapuso network offered him another soap to convince him to stay but Paulo declined, obviously. The offer was a drama titled Magkaagaw with Michelle Madrigal and Carla Abellana.

Paulo Avelino is said to sign with ABS-CBN on Monday, August 15, 2011.

The StarStruck alum is currently busy shooting the remake of the horror film Aswang under Regal Films. The movie, which originally starred Alma Moreno, now topbills Lovi Poe. Jillian Ward and singer-actor Marc Abaya are also in the cast.

Aside from that, Paulo Avelino is Cosmopolitan magazine's "Man on Fire" for August 2011. You can watch the behind-the-scenes footage of his photoshoot here.

Sam Pinto is Top Choice To Play "Angela Markado"

FHM's sexiest Sam Pinto is the top choice to play the role of Angela Markado which was originally done by veteran actress Hilda Koronel in 1980.

Sam Pinto

Written for komiks by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Abe Ocampo, it was adapted into a movie by the award-winning Lino Brocka.

Synopsis: The story is about a waitress named Angela who is raped by five men. The men further degrades her by tattooing their names on her back before selling her to a prostitution house. Another prostitute helps Angela escape. Upon arriving home, she finds out her mother has died and her bestfriend has also been raped by the same group of men. The bestfriend can't take it and commits suicide. Out of anger, Angela vows revenge. She makes it a life mission to kill the five men tattoed on her back.

Back in 2009, Angela Markado was reported to be made into a TV series that would star Katrina Halili. It never materialized.

Sam Pinto recently hit the headlines when she won topped the FHM Sexiest Women of the World 2011 polls. She also made quite a buzz with the alleged rift with Marian Rivera.

"Survivor Philippines 4" - Teaser

GMA-7 has aired the first teaser for Survivor Philippines 4 and the soundtrack is nostalgic. Can't wait for the season 4. But somehow I really wish it would be Paolo Bediones once again. Not that I don't like Richard Gutierrez, but Paolo did it really well, at par with the hosts of other Survivor franchise.

Anyway, you can watch the very first Survivor Philippines 4 teaser below.

Alden Richards Replaces Aljur Abrenica in "Panday 2"

Aljur Abrenica had been pulled out of the cast of Panday 2 (Ang Panday: Ikalawang Aklat) due to some pre-scheduled commitments abroad that get in conflict with his shooting schedules. It's just sad that the scenes Aljur had finished shooting will go to waste.

The good news is that a fresher face will replace Aljur for the role. Alden Richards, who we all loved in GMA-7's Alakdana earlier this year, took the role Aljur had left. As the saying goes, "One's loss is another's gain."

Alden Richards

The 18-year-old hottie who just entered showbiz this January is so lucky to have been given the right kind of exposures as of late. He's also included in the upcoming youth-oriented Tween Academy Class of 2012 which is showing on August 24th.
